Over the past couple of months I've spent nearly one hundred hours, if not more on Diablo III. I'll be honest those hours spent playing haven't always been the most exciting or thrilling but I still do enjoy the game. Diablo III or D3 as I'll probably refer to it in most of this post is a really fun game if you enjoy point and click games with friends. I personally like the game for it's incentive to level up and gain new skills all the way til the end of the game.
The Art on the box and in the instruction manual is amazing!
In my opinion here are some of the pros and cons of Diablo III
Pros:
+Very fun multiplayer for you and three friends. Getting from level 1 to level 60 is very fun with each of the character classes.
+Getting new skills every level is awesome!
+Gold Auction house is wonderful. We can look up weapons, armor, dyes, and gems and pay another player to get said item.
+Having a well balanced team with your friends can be really fun.
Cons:
-No single player or LAN options. Say your internet goes out and you cannot get online. Or say you live with a group of your friends or siblings that also like to play. Even what if you have slow internet connection and you lag all the damn time. NOPE.jpg from Blizzard. You have to play one way only even if you're only playing by yourself. You must have a Blizzard account and be constantly connected to their servers to prevent cheating. It's almost like and MMORPG without the the first M!
-RMAH = Real Money Auction House. When I first heard about this I was thrilled. Maybe with this added function I could make back the money I spent on D3 and maybe even an expansion or two down the line. A lot of changes (read as nerfs) happen to this game to encourage the use of spending real money. Blizzard also charges a $1 per transaction and on top of that another another 15% if a player chooses to use Paypal. So normally auctions start at $1.25. I know blizzard wants to make money but that means small things like gems and dyes are going to be super expensive! Maybe if Blizzard lowered their cut by half then more people would be gung ho about the RMAH. However right now everyone is posting their items for high prices or under cutting each other to try to sell stuff. I read msg boards where people claim to have made hundreds, and if they have more power to them.
-Blizzard Nerfs everything instead of balancing gameplay mechanics. Demon Hunter took some really hard nerfs. That really good evade move that lasts three seconds, lets cut it down to one second! Well maybe two if you have the proper rune equiped. That multi-hit Nether testicles that heals your archer as she's shooting. Let's nerf that to only one hit. Oh magic find! Let's cap that now so people don't find good items and flood the RMAH with too many powerful weapons. Oh now there's a weapon damage cap so your character can't get too powerful(this one might not be too true as I forget if it's character dmg or weapon dmg).
-D3 feels like we're in beta testing. When the game first came out my characters felt powerful and fun to play with each level up. When I hit Inferno difficulty it was hard as heck unless I used specific builds. With each "update" now Blizzard feels they need to nerf everything to make a slow paced, RMAH relied upon game. THERE STILL ISN'T PVP.
-*Spoilers* You fight some of the bosses you fought from the previous two games. Feels like a rip off if you ask me. I wanted to fight some new bosses.
-Level cap is 60. Feels a little low to me especially since you hit that level cap before you reach Inferno difficulty.
Here I will talk a little bit about each class.
All of the classes are fun to play in their own right but some are more fun than others. I also choose to play as all females(except the Barbarian) because if I'm going to play the same character for potentially hundreds of hours I prefer the voice grunting at me to be female. I also find it funny how each class has a nationality they try to explain in the manual. The only one that doesn't have a home are the Demon Hunters.
Barbarian:
A melee class. If anything Barbarians are a just at us Americans. Attack first and ask questions later. Move from one country to another. This class probably relies mostly on it's gear than the others. So in turn this class can be the most expensive to keep up. The better the gear you have the better your Barbarian is. Since this is the only "true" class from the previous games I have the most experience with this one. Barbarians are also the easiest class to play because they are point and click. Their skills focus on bashing the enemy with their brute strength. They get a 30% physical damage reduction from enemies.
Monk:
A slow tankish class with limited healing spells. I believe monks look and sound Russian. I chuckled a little because usually in the media I see Russians as violent people instead of the calm and collected Monk. I have the least experience with this class. Their main attack stat is dexterity. Monks focus more on defense and evasion skills to overcome their opponents. They also have a healing skill that can heal allies around them. They get a 30% physical damage reduction bonus from enemies.
Demon Hunter:
This was the first class I picked and in my opinion, even with the nerfs, the easiest to level up. Demon Hunters focus on dexterity as their main attack stat and you will see most using bows as their weapon of choice. I see a lot of demon hunters and in inferno they mostly play as glass cannons because it is easy to get a high damaging demon hunter who sacrifices their defensive capabilities.
Wizard:
They look Asian and they have Asian clothes in the description and from their clothes they look like they're from a Chinese drama. So Koreans are going to claim them as Korean (joking). Wizards are really fun to play but my problem is they run out of mana really quickly. Their spells are awesome to use and devastating if you the right equipment.
Witch Doctor:
I thought this one was a little racist. Witch Doctor is like a poor mans Necromancer (Although one does appear in the game). This class is supposed to be from the south and they are obviously based off of an African tribe. They are hunched over and I believe wear the crudest armor. The male even has a pot belly. Wtf Blizzard. This class is a little tricky because with the wrong skills you won't be killing much. I'm still trying to figure out what's the most effective for me and I haven't found a balance because their summons have a super long cool down time. The least placed class from my experience.
My final thoughts on D3.
If you haven't already picked up this game then I recommend you do but only if you have three friends interested in playing with you or if you really liked Diablo and Diablo III. The first time though the game(after all the nerfs) you're looking anywhere from ten hours to twenty hours of gameplay depending on how much you explore each map and optional dungeons. After those hours you get to move onto Nightmare difficulty, then Hell difficulty, and finally Inferno. However if you're like me and play all the classes playing the same game twenty times over gets pretty stale. So my tip is to pick one melee class and one ranged class and stick to them because it can get pretty boring leveling up two similar classes.
I give this game 3 demons out of 5 because it's fun for a while then it gets really repetitive especially with all the nerfs done by Blizzard.
